Heliotropes

Under - Inspiration, Literature, Media, Nature, Technology

Heliotropes, a film by Michael Langan based on the poem by Brian Christian, documents the parallel goals of man and nature through the most primitive and sophisticated means, to simply stay in the light.

Ed McGowan photography

Under - Art, Inspiration, Photography

Here comes amazing photography of Ed McGowan who a self taught photographer and the Director of Design at PlainJoe Studios:

We are a boutique design firm what does everything from web, print & environmental. The studio had just purchased a DSLR to use for internal purposes. I picked it up and started taking pictures. Being a little familiar with SLRs from college I quickly picked up on how to use the camera.

Several months past and I decided to do a 365 project in 2009. During this year is where I really challenged myself and learned a lot. I forced myself to shoot anything and everything and try to do it in an interesting way.

All though my photography consists of a bit of everything (close up, nature, architect), my passion is doing portrait photography. Being a geek I tend to drift towards lights and gear. I love doing natural light photography but I always end up mixing the too create a more distinct look for my portraits.

Winter in Yosemite National Park

Under - Art, Inspiration, Media, Nature, Photography

Another spectacularly calming and meditative short by Henry Jun Wah Lee on winter in Yosemite National Park.

Shot over the 2011 New Year weekend when a winter storm arrived in Yosemite. Overcast skies the first day, followed by heavy snow on the second day, partly cloudy the third day and sunny the fourth day. You’ll see a mixture of shots from the different weather conditions.

A Timelapse Journey with Nature

Under - Art, Inspiration, Media, Nature, Photography

This timelapse showreel is a collection of some of the best Nature moments that Henry Jun Wah Lee captured from 2009 to present.

I grew up in the city — a world constructed of steel, concrete and asphalt. My view of the night sky was the moon and the handful of stars bright enough to outshine the glow of city lights.

My understanding of nature was limited to what I could find at local gardens, parks and zoos. As a kid I never saw the Milky Way with my own eyes. Just on sci-fi television and in books and magazines. My encounters with wild animals were limited to squirrels and pigeons in the city (if those even count as wild).

In 2009, I set out to film nature to share with urban dwellers who, like me, have never ventured outside the routines and comforts of cities. It’s now been two years, many amazing trips, and countless incredible experiences. This film is a compilation of the many highlights captured during this time.

An early winter afternoon in Virginia Water

Under - Art, Inspiration, My Musings, Nature, Photography

An early winter afternoon photo shoot at Virginia Water Lake which lies within Windsor Great Park. The lake is mostly in Surrey county, though the western extremities are in the civil parishes of Old Windsor and Sunninghill and Ascot in Berkshire, England.

According to Wikipedia the shores of the lake have recently been used for lakeside scenes in the Harry Potter films. You can view the complete set at Flickr.
